FAQ for Contributing to I'm Perfectly Fine Without You
All participants are fully anonymous and confidential. Because of this, I ask that your submission not include any proper names and that you use pronouns (he said, she said) or descriptors such as bio dad, step-father, mother, sister, older brother instead of their actual names. If you accidentally include them, I will have them redacted to protect both your and their identities.

As far as the content of your contribution, I usually ask my participants to talk about their background and how their parents met, as well as how they felt their father's absence impacted them growing up. Any memories that stand out, especially of the father or related to him, are helpful. Additionally, if they feel this situation has affected them becoming a parent have also been explored. Personality, how they viewed their father growing up, and more finish out most conversations. It's up to you on how much you want to disclose, but it is helpful to discuss some of this information.

I am located in Boston area, so if you are interested in being interviewed in person, feel free to contact me to set up a time and date.

Please include consent information (see below) in all submissions, since I cannot use your submission without it. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email imperfectlyfinewithoutyou@gmail.com

For Written Submissions:

You can send either a .pdf, .doc, .docx, or .rtf file (no .pages) with your story; at the top, please copy and electronically sign the following release:

This is ________, and I am granting consent to Daisy Patton for use of this writing for web and/or other uses. I understand my contribution may be edited for clarity, anonymity, or other reasons. Today's date is _______.

For Audio Submissions:

Please send file through email; .aiff, .wav, and .mp3 formats are encouraged. If your file is too large (over 25MB), contact me via email for instructions on how to upload the file. At the beginning of your recording, state the following:

This is ________ (say and spell), and I am granting consent to Daisy Patton for use of this recording for web and further uses. I understand my contribution may be edited for clarity, anonymity, or other reasons. Today's date is ________.

Helpful Hints for Audio

It's sometimes easier to talk about this topic with someone asking you questions. If you like, you can have a friend conduct the interview; I can edit your friend out of the audio just as I edited myself from the participants' files.

Try to record in a quiet environment as much as possible. Some ambient sound is fine, but if it makes your voice unintelligible, your recording may not be used.

It is fine if your recording runs long; usually, I try to edit between 10 and 20 minutes in length. So if yours is longer than that, I'll trim as much as to keep the integrity of your story intact.
